Golden Oldies
The Golden Oldie Scheme has been set up to encourage the adoption of older Beagles.
In many cases people are reluctant to take on an older Beagle, even though they are often the most delightful of companions!
Beagle Welfare acknowledges that as hounds grow older the likelihood of them needing more veterinary attention increases. In a few cases this may entail significant expense. Owners of Welfare Beagles are, of course, expected to take full responsibility for their hounds, but we would not wish to deprive a hound of a home, or an owner of a hound, just because financial circumstances are restricted.
Under the Golden Oldie Scheme, should a hound that has been re-homed after it is eight years old require expensive veterinary attention, the new owners can apply to the Beagle Welfare Trustees for assistance with veterinary bills which are over and above routine maintenance.
Please do consider the older hounds. It is so sad to see a Beagle that is used to living in a family home staying in kennels for long periods of time, just because of its age.
